Film Aspects Meaning - 'The Power Of One'

How do the film aspects show the meaning in John. G. Auildsen's film "The Power Of One".

The Power of One (1992) - Rotten Tomatoes

S: In the concert scene, we hear the native South Africans sing a song in their language that was written by P.K  (The main character)

E: The joyful song was lead by a native singer and the chorus was sung by the rest of the tribe harmoniously, whilst Doc played the piano and P.K composed.

X: The song makes us as the audience feel hopeful and it was moving. This was because P.K - though the singing - brought the tribes together.

X: The purpose of this was to help show that P.K was the mythical figure of the Rain-maker;

X: The singing combined with long shots that also helps show the harmony of the natives as they are all sitting nicely together.

Y: The singing can be compared to the singing at the boxing match, as the now freed natives sing to P.K to show him they think he is the Rain-maker. Both lots of singing give a sense of hope for the native South Africans.

Neutralisation - Science

 Aim: To observe neutralisation reaction.

Equipment:
6 test tubes, test tube rack, 1 base, 1 acid ( making sure it has around the same PH level on opposite sides), dropper bottle, Universal Indicator.

Method:

  1. Get all of your equipment.
  2. Fill 4 test tubes with 3ml of acid.
  3. FIll the other 2 with 3ml of the base.
  4. Add a squirt of universal indicator to each test tube.
  5. Add different amounts of acids and bases to make the colors of the rainbow. (ROYGBIV)

Observation:
A chemical reaction caused by adding the base to the acid was extraordinary. When the base was being added in you could see the acid and the base mixing around changing the color from blue to red until it finally came to a stop at a yellowish-green.

Discussion:
This means that it was changing to a neutral ph level. Tho it is turning green, when t is green that doesn't mean that it would be drinkable. Neutralisation is when a chemical reaction occurs while mixing together a base and an acid. Every acid has hydrogen in it where every base has hydroxide. These are the main chemicals ht are in every base or acid making us believe that they are the reason for the changing in color/neutralisation. When they combined together to get the perfect mix between each chemical it making them cancel each other out. (Mixing the two chemicals together makes H2O also known as water) It is called neutralisation because it is causing the base and the acid to get to a safe level (7).

Conclusion:
In conclusion, we were able to understand the method behind the mixing of the chemicals. I also understand how hydrogen and hydroxide cause the chemicals to change colors. If I were to do it again I would get a stronger base for the acid was pretty strong causing the chemical reactions to be slowed down. It also meant my group and I had to use more of the base than we should of for it took longer to change.

The Beatles - The Beat of The Music

Help! - The Beatles

The Beatles was released in July 1965 and was the number one for 3 weeks in the US and UK. It was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Lennon recounted "The whole Beatle thing was just beyond comprehension. I was subconsciously crying out for help." during an interview with playboy. They were changing the types of music and lyrics in the music industry. The Beatles were doing things other people wanted to do but didn't have the influence causing them to become an icon.

Parihaka - Tim Finn and The Herbs

This song tells the story of the peaceful protest. Finn was given Dick Scott's 'Ask That Mountain' by his sister and was told to write a song about it. 'rise up, rise up, defend yourself' was a line that talks about how they were protesting peacefully and still the others retaliated violently. They were determined to set a better future that will be sustainable. The song is significant because it tells us not only the story of the men but the woman and children as well.
