Block Printing - Textiles

This term we were working on different printing styles. Last week did block printing. I decided to spring out a pandas face without the outline so it would just be some ears, a nose, mouth, and cute panda eyes. We started by drawing out our design onto some cardboard paper because it was thick and the paint wouldn't bleed through the paper. After that, we used crafting knives to cut out our design until it is how we want on the fabric. Once our design was complete we grabbed a screen, squeegee, and some paint to start our printing. The card was placed under the screen and with the squeegee, we spread the paint around the screen trying to cover our design. Once we were certain that the paint went through, we pealed it away and then let our fabric dry. (Make sure you clean everything well so the paint doesn't dry on the screen and squeegee)

Culture - Home Room

We have been working on learning more about our future and also about other cultures. Culture isn't only where you are from but also your traditions, heritage, personal identity, and things that shape you who you are. I don't know much about my family culture because I don't really communicate well with them about this stuff. While we were working on our culture we made posters and clay sculptures. My poster was just a mix of my favorite things like book, walks at night in the rain, and quotes. My clay on the other hand was a little more intricate. It was a flower type thing with three petals. One was a mix of red, blue and purple to show my crazy side. The opposite was white to repusent how I can be calm. And in the middle it was yellow to resemble my favorite anime character.

Live Aid - Social Studies

I think queen used this song, not only because it is famous, but also because it is about how a man makes a mistake by killing someone and has regrets. Like how people are dying from hunger and we are all feeling regret for not helping them sooner. This is a form of protest against all of the big-time companies that store up all this food and chuck it away instead of giving it to the people that need it. I don't feel like anyone can make a concert like live aid for it was very successful. There is some music that I seaning full not only towards hunger but also black lives matter. Songs like 'Run the worlds (Girls)' help bring up topics that need to be talked about. This concert not only helped people that were starving but it helped people stand up for things that they believe in.

THE POWER OF ONE: ASSESSMENT

THE POWER OF ONE: ASSESSMENT

Picture 1

Inspiring, Educating, Exhilarating. These are just some of the words to describe the film ‘The Power Of One’. John G Avildsen directed the movie and utilised the lighting skillfully through the ‘hang him up’ scene. This is demonstrated when the professor/principal walks in with the light behind him slightly above. This makes the audience think that he is strong and important compared to the others. The director did this to show how empowering the professor is. This worked well with the silence of the scene when they see him and stop talking. This aspect can be compared to when they are chanting and the light is shining upon their face. Students working on film aspects or human rights should view this film for its great view on the history topic.

Picture 2

Close up, midshot, POV, over the shoulder. These are just some of the expertly used camera angles in the powerful film ‘The Power Of One’, directed by John G Advilsen. A long shot is used effectively in the ‘Hang him up’ scene. This is demonstrated when everyone is meant to be getting ready for bed but is instead causing a riot. This makes us think something is going to happen. This was one to show everyone in the room and make us understand the chaos that’s happening. This worked well with the sound in the scene for they are all chanting and screaming. This aspect can be compared to when the professor walks in and they are standing in two lines being as silent as possible. The director used these powerful film aspects throughout the movie. We could see things from different perspectives and it helped make the film more understandable. This film brings more awareness to the global issue of race discrimination.

Picture 3

Lighting, Music, Sound, and Camera angles are all expertly used in the film ‘The Power Of One’. All of these are used well but the symbolism is used very effectively during the ‘Hang him up’ scene. For example, when everyone is running around there is a quick cut scene to the symbol carved into the wood. This shows us that the people in the school respect the Nazis and are dedicated to proving it. The purpose of this was to help join everything in the story by giving it a symbol. This worked well with the flags shown in the next part of the scene because they have the same symbol and the same meaning. This aspect can be compared to when Botha the bully has his friend carve the symbol into his arm. Avildsen used his expert directing to give the film more depth and meaning, making the film a thrill to watch.

Picture 4

One man, One hundred problems, ‘The Power of One' was a brilliantly directed film by John G Advilsen. Expertly used makeup is implemented well in the ‘hang him up’ scene. For instance, when Botha the bully slaps PK, his nose starts to bleed and smear over his face. This makes us understand that he was hit pretty hard and that Brotha is strong compared to PK. This was done to exemplify the power of Brotha’s hit. This was done to exemplify the power of Brotha’s hit. This worked well when Brotha’s friend was ‘carving’ the Nazi symbol into his arm. The makeup was realistic making us feel like it is real and to contrast from when he was in the boxing ring later on in the movie. Makeup was a relatively big part of the movie-making it better and definitely more realistic. ‘The Power Of One’ is an amazingly directed 1992 film. He expertly uses music, makeup, and camera angles to prove a powerful point. This is educational, meaningful, and to some people, it can bring hope.

Live Aid - Bob Geldof

NOTES -

Bob Geldof is a singer who was very successful when he was the lead singer of a band called 'Boomtown Rats'. He was born in Ireland on 1951 5th of October. He went to a private Catholic school, though he didn't like his time there because of its Catholic ethos and bullying for his lack of rugby prowess. He wanted to become a musician to get famous, to get rich, and to get laid.

He wrote the song 'Do They Know Its Christmas' after watching the British television news report on the extreme conditions of hunger in Arica in October 1984.

Acid Rain - Science

Acid rain is made by a chemical reaction that starts when compounds like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air. Cars, trucks, and busses all add these compounds into the air. The pollution from the compounds that cause acid rain can also create tiny particles. These particles get into people's lungs and can cause health problems and/or can make existing health problems worse. China has the worst spell of acid rain because of its extensive use of acid rain. Acid rain can not rot your skin and it doesn't taste or smell any different than normal rain.

Acid Rain Experiment:
