C.I.P - Kindness Banner

For the last two weeks, we have been working on planning, drawing, and painting our kindness banners. We created these banners to put on the fences and walls of Hornby High to brighten people's days and create a better thought in people's minds. Since we have been working on making the world happier my group and I decided to put the world on our poster telling everyone to spread kindness around the world. We put the words in rainbow coloring and tried to make it as neat as possible. We all thought that the drawing was gonna be the hardest part but it ended up being the easiest. The painting on the other hand... not so easy. We had different ideas for different drawings. At one point we thought of restarting when we already were halfway done. In the end, our poster became what we had envisioned in our minds. Short, sweet, and inspirational... at least to us.

DRAMA - CHANGES AND CHALLENGES

Today in drama we were talking about who inspires us or someone we look up too. I chose Billie Eilish because she isn't afraid to speak her mind nor is she afraid of spiders. She is an amazing singer and most of my friends love her voice. I put her life story and why she inspires me.

Carbon Footprint - Climate Chaos

Today in science we got given a picture of a foot with circles and writing. We got told that it was our carbon footprint and we had to highlight everything we were doing in one color, but in another highlight everything, we want to do. I thought I was pretty good with my carbon footprint until I highlighted everything. Then I found out I am doing more damage in the world then fixing. The blue represents everything that I am doing and the revolting pink ( I HATE PINK ) represents what I can be doing.

Here are my pledges to make my carbon footprint

  1. Recycle everything I can.
  2. Check labels and try to buy local food.
  3. Conserve more water.
  4. Use less power.
  5. Do more things with friends that don't leave a carbon footprint.

Digi Tech - Laser Cutting

This term for technology we have been learning how to use the laser cutter. Our teacher decided that it would be easier to start off by looking around two websites. They were Tinkercad and Thingiverse, we looked for keyrings and name tags. We first went into laser works and made our name tags to print out. Then we did a keyring with images we found on the internet. I made a cute, mini dino for my friend's keyring. We made different things every day using Laser Works. It was the site we always went on in every lesson.

Rosa Parks - Cool To Be Kind

Today in C.I.P ( cool to be kind ) we have been looking at everyone who has changed the world with kindness and courage. I chose to work on Rosa Parks because she inspired me with her inspirational words and brave steps to make everyone equal. She started by refusing to move on the bus for a white woman when all the front was taken. This was on Thursday, December 1st, 1955 when Rosa went on the bus from a long day's work. Her professions were dressmaker, secretary, and activist.

Hurumanu - Wind Power

Extreme weather

Measuring weather.

Definitions:

  1. Anemometer:
  2. Beaufort wind scale:

Anemometer

MATERIALS

  1.   Tape
  2.   Pencil
  3.   Four circular dishes ( NOT REAL DISHES
  4.   Pin
  5.   2 Kabab sticks

STEPS

  1. Tape your circles onto the sticks so all of them would be facing the same way when tapes together.
  2.  Tape the sticks together making an x.
  3.  Put the pin through the tape on the sticks but making sure that you don't tape the pin.
  4.  In the other end where the pin came out, put the end of the pencil ( the rubber ) on the sharp pin.
  5.  Go around your place and record how many spins it makes in the different places.

Group Investigation.

Groups size: 5
Roles:

  • Timekeeper ( watch)
  • Counter
  • Recorder ( Chromebook or refill )
  • Anemometer Manager ( Anemometer)
  • Wind Manager

Instructions:
  • Go to the measuring place and set up your wind gauge.
  • Make sure everyone in your group is ready to start their roles.
  • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
  • Count the number of spins in 15 seconds.
  • Record it on your chart.

FINDINGS

Place name on school grounds                                    Number of Spins in 15 seconds
1.Field0
2.Old J Block site2
3.Grass hill in the quad1
4.Tennis Court gate0

CONCLUSION:

I think that the old J block site has the most wind because of all of the construction that has been going on. The Feld and Tenis courts Had the least amount of wind because today was a calm day and there has been nothing going on around those places. The Grass hill had 1 spin because the higher we go the more the wind blows. In conclusion, It doesn't matter if you measure at the same time It just matters where you are and how much the wind blows there.

Bio Poem - Drama

For drama today we had been given a template of a bio poem and told to write
one about yourself.

I’m Emily

Imma a quirky, kind, funny, creative person.

Sister to one annoying, creepy, woman who never let anyone’s judgment
get in the way of her learning and drawing. Daughter of Anita, a nice,
amazing mother who always helps any way she can. Daughter of Scott
a strange, angry person who kept going until the job was done or
the lesson had been taught.

A family who would never let anyone hurt each other. A family who
would never do anything to hurt one another. A family who made
anyone and everyone feel like they were at home.
This is the thing that keeps me sane.

Bullies never fail to show for they always find those who have even
the smallest things wrong. They make u feel sad. They make you
feel angry. They make you feel like life's not worth the trouble
caused by them.

I am a person who fears clowns walking the streets, spiders crawling
up my back, and my biggest fear is of losing those who did so much
as to care about me.

I have always wanted to jump off the sky tower, climb up the tallest
mountains, but most of all always wanted to become a writer.

Born in Christchurch and raised in Hornby.

Life is a conundrum of esoterica

C.I.P - Cool To Be Kind

For our, Cool To Be Kind C.I.P group we have been talking to the elderly, helping each other and learning the meaning of kindness by showing our values to help Hornby become a nice and friendly place to be. I feel like we could be doing much more to help our community by getting hands in and go to different primary schools and talk about what kindness means and how they could show kindness with just a simple smile. Maybe we could write letters and placing them all over Hornby so everyone can read them, or place some fun in the walls of our home with drawing and coloring competitions. Either way, I think that we could do a lot but we could do more with the help of the community. Be kind to your family, Help do the landry or clean the house. Be kind to your neighbors, talk to them and compliment them once in a while. But most of all be kind to yourself, treat yourself sometimes and think good thoughts about how you look and what you do.

C.I.P - What We Are Doing

Every Wednesday for the past 3 terms we have been doing C.I.P which stands for Community Impact Projects. In cool to be kind we go around and help others, talk to the elderly, and share our thoughts and ideas on our blogs. We want to make an impact on our community and make Hornby a better place to live. In our other C.I.P group, Tane Mahuta. We go and plant more native trees to keep nature in the world and we talk about what we are doing to destroy this plant. We want the native birds to come back to New Zealand by starting to plant those trees that the birds most likely go to. Making our home a better place to be without all the gases and oils leaking into our atmosphere. Help us make our world a better place to be by recycling, re-planting, and reducing the need for destroying our home.

    1. Test tubes x 4
    2. Corks x 4
    3. Test tube stand
    4. Bread
    5. Banana

    7. Brown paper/cardboard
    8. Water
    Steps:
    1. Collect your materials from your science teacher.
    2. Put the banana, styrophone, paper/cardboard, and bread into their own test tubes.
    3. Add half a tube of water to the bread.
    4. Write the names of your team members down so you know whos thing is whos
    5. Set them out and wait for your results.

Poem Holidays - Gaming calls

For the start of the day, we have been told to write something about what we had been doing during the holidays. I decided to write about all the calls that I had been in with my friends that love to game. They are always playing some type of video game whenever we talk and I thought why not talk about that.

Climate Chaos - My Investigation on climate change

My Investigation on climate change

    ACIDIFICATION

Image result for acidification          Image result for acidification

DEFINITION: Making or changing something into an acid.

What is happening to the oceans?
    • The ocean is absorbing carbon dioxide.
    • People are polluting the oceans.
    • Poisoning the oceans with different chemicals.

What does this do to shellfish?
    • The shellfish are dying cause they aren't able to make their shells.
    • The carbon is hurting sea life.
    • Poisoning the oceans kills the ocean critters and shellfish.

HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACIDIFICATION OF OUR OCEANS?

The water cycle evaporates into the air and the carbon dioxide is condensation into the water cycle and perpetuates into the oceans.

    DEFORESTATION

Image result for deforestation             Image result for deforestation

DEFINITION: When people cut down trees but don't replace them.

    What are trees used for?
    Buildings, Furniture, Things

HOW DOES DEFORESTATION AFFECT THE CLIMATE?

The carbon we breath out has nowhere to go.

    ICECAP MELT

Image result for icecap melt                   Image result for icecap melt

DEFINITION: The ice in antarcicta mealts.

If all the ice melted what would happen?
The sea levels would rise, Citys would be flodded. The salt in the water would go and the sea salt creatures would die not being able to get use to freash water.

HOW DOES ICECAP MELT AFFECT CLIMATE CHANGE?

It changes that way the water gies. More people would have to move and the trees would be cut down to get more space and stuff for them.
