Fleas and Rats - Chaos!

Basic Body Paragraph - Fleas and Rats

During the black death 75-200 million people, almost one-third of the world’s population causing it to be named the deadliest pandemic in history. The black death started in china and spread wide around the world, mainly getting transported by the trading ports making it harder to contain. During the first year, it hit all of the countries near china and a while after managed to hit Europe. The plague started from the fleas that had the infectious fever caused by the bacterium yersinia pestis. We believe that when the fleas bite these rodents and humans it was helping to spread the disease. This helps link back to my main topic, The black death was the deadliest pandemic in history.

Distillation - Chemistry

Last lesson we learned that the process of evaporation is when a liquid turns into a gas. So we can separate a solution, by evaporating away the solvent to leave a solute (Solid). But what if we want to collect gas? when we trap the gas and turn it back into a liquid this is called condensation. Distillation uses the process of condensation.

What is -
Evaporation: Heating a liquid, turns to a gas.
Condensation: Cooling down a gas, turn into a liquid.

Set-Up -

Hypothesis - I think that the water will be evaporated but I don't know what the solid will be.

RESULTS -
As we turned the orange flame to blue the coke zero inside the conical flask heated up very quickly and was boiling in no time, along with the massive bubbles there was also lots of condensation gathering on the glass. attached to the conical flask was the tube thing wich slowly started pumping small amounts of clear liquid into the test tube that was dumped into a beaker full of ice. Coming out of the test tube was a ongoing stream of smoke. During the 20mins the coke zero slowly went down till there was barely any left, the colour was now almost black kinda like soy sauce but a shade darker. When all the water evaporated from the coke what was left was a small puddle of inky black.

Character Design - Melodrama

Today in drama class we were working on creating our own characters. We talked a little about the types of characters and their roles in the play/movie. We got given a few questions to answer then got to create our own character with their traits and what they like to do.

Q1 - Describe 5 types of melodrama characters.

A Hero: They are good, handsome, and manly. They act on there intuition and are in-tune with nature. While they believe in justice, they don't always follow the less important rules of society.

A Heroine: Who is also moral in that they are innocent. They are beautiful and courageous but likely need saving.

A Villian: They are evil. These characters are normally greedy, vengeful, and corrupt.

A Villains Accomplice: They are rather idiotic and serves as comical relief.

A Faithful Servant: They help the hero uncover hidden information on the villain. This character also serves comic relief but does not come off as idiotic.

Q2 - Create a full biography for a melodrama character you have invented.

Mixing and Dissolving - Chemicals and Chaos

Today in chemicals and chaos we were learning about mixtures and the huge vocabulary of words involved with this subject. We had the pre-test to see what we already knew about mixtures and I got 94% out of 100%. After we did the pre-test we learned a little about it and after that, we did an experiment with sugar and water.

What is a mixture?
A mixture is a substance made by combining different substances together.

What is dissolving?
Dissolving something is when you are making the substance part of the mixture.

How could you speed up dissolving?
You could use hot water, Use a fine powder, or stir it in.

Can everything dissolve?
Soluble - Something that can dissolve in water.
Insoluble - Something that can not dissolve in water.

EXPERIMENT -

Equipment -
50ml of cold water + 1 spatula sugar x2
50ml of warm water + 1 spatula sugar x2

Method -
1. Add one spatular of sugar into the cold water and mix until dissolved making sure to time it from when you first put it into when it is finished dissolving.
2. Add one spatular of sugar into the warm water and mix until dissolved making sure to time it from when you first put it into when it is finished dissolving.
3. Add one spatular of sugar into the cold water and leave it making sure it is not disturbed and wait until it is dissolved making sure to time it from when you first put it into when it is fully dissolved.
4. Add one spatular of sugar into the warm water and leave it making sure it is not disturbed and wait until it is dissolved making sure to time it from when you first put it into when it is fully dissolved.

Serial Dilution - Chemistry

AIM:

The aim of this experiments is to create a serial dilution.

HYPOTHESIS:

It will become less consentrated as it goes down the line..

Method:

Start of by collecting 6 test tubes. In the first test-tube, put 10mls of water. With the other 5 test tubes, fill them all up with 5ml of water. After that, start by adding in a piece of potassium permanganate into test tube 1 with the 10mls. Move 5mls of solution 1 into test tube 2 and 2 into 3 until it has ended up with 5 going into 6. By that time you should notice the different shades as the potassium permanganate starts diluting and becomes overcome with the water there for making it a lighter and less concentrated solution as it goes down the line.

Conclusion: The start tube was the most concentrated because it had less water causing it to have more of the potassium permanganate particals. as you went down the line the potassium permanganate started becoming more diluted as the water makes itself more present.

Chicken Tacos!! - Cooking

Today for cooking, we made Crispy Chicken Tacos. The people in my group were Sunny and Jacob for Hayley wasn't here today. It was a Strange and chaotic lesson but my group and I managed to pull together in the end and create some great tacos. In our tacos, we had chicken breast, lettuce, cheese, carrots, sour cream, and salsa.

The Taco was divine, the chicken was very nice for it melted in your mouth. The only thing that troubled me with the chicken was the fact it wasn't as crunchy as I expected so next time I would put it in for longer. The lettuce and carrots were fresh and added some different texture with the crunch making up for the lack of crunch in the chicken. I think I may have added a bit too much sour cream to the tacos for it had an overpowering taste. I think next time I make this I won't add the sour cream for I didn't like the way it blended with the flavors and textures of the taco.

I didn't get any photos for my group, and I didn't have our phones there for making it impossible to get photos of our tacos.

Ingredients:

Tortillas
Salsa
Carrots
Lettuce
Cheese
Sour cream
Chicken breast

Cooking Method:

1. preheat oven to 180

2. Slice chicken into strips 4cm wide. These may be cut into 6cm lengths.

3. Place chicken into a bowl.

4. Drizzle with oil and mix to cover all chicken surfaces.

5. Add crispy chicken spice mix and stir to coat chicken evenly.

6. Place coated chicken on an oven tray lined with baking paper.

7. Bake for 10-12 mins until crispy and golden.

8. warm tortillas in the microwave for 30 sec.

9. Build your taco with chicken, lettuce, carrot, cheese, and top with sour cream and salsa.

Gymnastics - P.E

 Gymnastics -

Today my focus was on the beam. I was working on having the confidence to jump over objects for at the start of this subject I wasn't even able to walk down the beam without falling off. When I started I tried to jump over nothing so I could get the hang of jumping on the beam. After that, I put on 1 cone and started building up the courage to jump over it. In the end, I jumped over the cone 3 times and accomplished some of the things on the card.

My 3 activities from the card was a normal jump, walking up and down the beam, and jumping over cones trying to stay on.

Filtration Experiment - Chemistry

Aim: To separate a solution from a precipitate.

Hypothesis - It doesn't change.

Results:

After filtering it the filtered part was a clear liquid and the part left was a chunky, solid blue, chemical. When we filtrated the mixture I was very surprised by the fact it was clear but then again chemistry is a very complicated subject.
