Balloon Chemistry - Science

Image result for baking soda balloonsAim: To see which chemical
mix creates the most gas.

Hypothesis: (What do I think will happen)
I think that the baking soda and vinegar will create the most gas to fill the balloon more than the other ones. The reason behind this is because I have heard about people using this technique before and been told it works. I haven't heard much about the other ones but I think that they might work.

Materials:
  1.  Balloon
  2.  Bottle
  3.  Yeast
  4.  Warm water
  5.  Sugar
  6.  Funnel
Steps:
  1.  Grab a bottle, make sure it is empty and dry.
  2.  Grab a funnel and balloon.
  3.  Then get the first ingredients, yeast, and sugar.
  4.  Pour 2 tsp of the yeast and 1 tsp of sugar, make sure to pour it one at a time.
  5.  Then wait for it to rise.
  6.  'Next experiments' repeat the first 2 steps, This time grab some baking soda and vinegar. after that use salt and soda.

Findings:

Balloon 1
( 3 tsp baking soda, ½ cup vinegar)
Balloon 2
( 3 tsp salt, ½ cup soda)
Balloon 3
( 2 tsp yeast, 1 tsp sugar )
Balloon Size (cm)
10.6cm5.1cm5.5cm
Bubbles
Medium amount of bubblesMedium amount of bubblesA large amount of bubbles.

Conclusion:
The mixture of baking soda and vinegar creates a bugger reaction to each other creating more gas than most other mixes. The mixture of salt and normal soda makes the little amount of gas compared to the baking soda and vinegar. In conclusion, if u want to create more gas I would recommend baking soda and vinegar.

  1. Hi Emily.
This was a very interesting post and sound like you had a lot of fun.
I like that you have shown us how big the balloon got.
Next time show us how much bottles we need.
