Treaty Of Waitangi - Power to The People

This week I have been learning more about the treaty of Waitangi and why it was signed. The treaty of Waitangi is a huge deal and if you think not just wonder how important it must be to have its own day on the calendar. We went through a slideshow about the day, when it was, what it was about, and who signed it trying to fit as much knowledge of the day in our brains as we could. I found out that the treaty was signed by the Maori and the British crown, It was about letting the queen or king rule the land. It also was about letting the Maori be treated the same as the British for they had been discarded and denied whenever they had tried to do something around the British. here is my work on the treaty of Waitangi.

1. Who was the Treaty of Waitangi between?
The British and Māori.

2. When did the government decide that they needed a treaty?
1830’s

3. Why do you think the treaty needed to be translated?
Because if it was only in one then only one group of people would understand what it said and what it meant. If you could read it then you wouldn’t know what the agreement was.

4. How many chiefs signed the treaty on the 6th of February 1840?
500

5. What was the main cause of the wars in the 1860s?
Because the treaty wasn’t translated in both languages.

6. What happened in the 1970s?
The Māori people decided to finally protest for their land.

7. Why do you think it took so long for people to protest about the treaty?
Because people had different opinions and others probably didn’t want to get rid of the thing that their own people agreed to.

8. Research and find out what a ‘tribunal’ is.
It is a seat of judgment, particularly a judge’s seat in court.

Silver Ferns Poem - Cool To Be Kind

Today I have been learning and writing about the Silver Ferns. I found out that their name comes from the silver tree fern. I thought that because I made a poem for All Blacks and I love writing poems that I would write one for them to show how I feel when they shoot a goal through the hoop and score a win on the playboard. I wrote my poem thinking about how they might shoot a goal and miss but are able to get back on their feet to win the game.

The All Blacks Reply - C.I.P

Today at the start of C.I.P we had been shown a message sent from Anton on behalf of All Blacks. They heard that we, Hornby High School were creating a special something to encourage them with their mission to win the world cup. When I heard this message I felt inspired to make more improvements in my poem but when I thought more about it I felt like I had already done all that I could with the knowledge I had.

Changes and Challenges - How Is Laughter Good

Today for changes and challenges we have been learning all about how laughing can help your mental health. Laughing can help your health because when you laugh even if it is fake your smiling and your tricking your mind into making you happy. It also helps your physical health because when your laughing your breath is short and the blood flows quicker with your heart beating faster. Laughing is good for you in more ways then you think so you need to laugh at least 2 times a day to keep your mental help up and good.

The things that make me laugh are my friends because they are always making jokes even if they don´t mean to. When they will pay truth or dare they dare each other to do random things like doing the splits when they can´t and twirling 5 times or maybe jump off a tree like a cat. Sometimes they would hurt themselves and someone else in the proses but they would make them laugh and smile to forget what hurts. They not only make people physically laugh but they help them mentally. That's what makes me
laugh

Yurtle The Turtle

In 7Mt we had two frogs named yoda and belle. We thought that the frogs were getting really boring so Mr Mitchell told us that if we can convince Mrs Mitchell to trade the frogs for the turtle we would have a turtle in the classroom. We all wrote letters to her explaining the benefits of having frogs instead of a turtle.

Here Is Mine -

Dear, Mrs Mitchell

I am here today to tell you the benefits of having frogs as class pets. You can tell them that they will start croaking of you are very very quiet to keep them calm. The funny thing is that when we meet Mr Mitchell he told us this and we got quiet instantly. Another thing is you would be able to get a free bugs farm so you can feed you frogs. I find it disgusting that you have to be near them but we have heard that kids love bugs. They don’t take much to be able to take care of them

The down sides might be if your to quiet then they might be to loud and destorbe them. How Mr Mitchell solves it is knocking on the glass but it doesn't always work. The other thing is the kids might not like bugs and start to scream while they run as far away as they can (definitely not like me).

This is all I have to say but maybe if you don’t agree 7mt might try next year. Then we will have the turtles.

Yours Sincerely

Emily, from 7mt

With all of this said you would think that we would want the frogs but we have had them in the class all year had have gotten annoyed of their crocks because it distracted our work. It was a complicated to get her but it was worth it in the end.
