Today in P.E hurumanu we learned about the Fosbury Flop for the high jump. I found out that you are meant to jump from one foot and you can take a small jog instead of a fast run to the bar. We had the bar put just above the mat so we could practice instead of just going into what the bar in athletics. The Fosbury Flop is when you take a small jog and turn ]just before you jump, then you lift one leg up and jump off your other foot.
After that we went outside onto the field and started to learn more about shotput; We started by looking away from where we were going to throw and took one step forward turned on out toes and pushed the shotput from out of our neck into our destination. After that, we went inside and ended our class with this blog post.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

The Water Cycle - Climate Chaos
CLIMATE CHANGE - WATER CYCLE
Today in science we talked about the water cycle and how some things fit into climate change. We got given some hexagon´s with labels so we could connect them with what we think it goes with. A group of them were about the water cycle and the other about climate change. We had some trouble finding out where we should put acid rain but then we thought about the rain and the water cycle. Then we all decided that acid rain would go into the same process.Hurricanes - A storm with a violent wind.
Climate change - When the weather changes from its normal pattern.
Carbon Dioxide - Is what helps bring life into trees which bring oxygen into the air.
Acid rain - Its when chemicals evaporate, condensate and precipitate.
Water cycle - When the water/plants evaporate, condensate and precipitate.
Water Vapour - When the liquid turns into a gas that helps evaporate through the air.
Transpiration - Evaporation through plants.
Evaporation - when water turns to gas and goes up to start condensation.
Condensation - When water comes together building up pressure and turns into clouds.
Precipitation - When the water had finished condensing it comes down in the form of rain, snow etc.

Changes And Challenges - Games
On Tuesday we started our drama hurumanu by Getting to know each other and playing games to get into the drama theme. We started off in a big circle on the floor with all of our shoes off.
We played a game where one person went our sie while we picked a leader. That leader would stomp, clap, wave or something while everyone also copies. The person that went outside comes back in and has 3 chances to find out who the leader is. then the person who was the leader chooses who is the new one while the person who went outside picks someone else to go out.
After that, we got into partners and looked at each other in the eyes. I ended up on lying down laughing my heart out. We played 2 truths 1 lie and I was partnered with mya. After we said ours and guessed we got into groups of 4 by just adding on another group. We ended up with the guys and Found it awkward.
Then we played tequila. No, I do not mean the drink but I do mean the game. It was where we passed on the action and word and when someone shouted tequila then we walk around to the other side of the circle and when the music stops we stop and start again. If someone says a weird word then we all have to jump. I don´t remember what the words were but I found then very weird.
Last, of all, we played statues without really knowing what was going on. My friend kept moving when they weren't looking so she can have fun while learning how to play. She got out within the first 3 minutes. I stayed in the game a little longer but got out when they went in my face and I started laughing. Then a lot of people were laughing cause I ended on the floor.

Cross-Court Games P.E
This week in our P.E Hurumanu we have been playing games like Floor Hockey, Soccer, and Bench Ball. We did this in the new gym for more space but so the balls don’t get lost. We had been doing this to learn how to be a great team with people that we don’t often work with.
Our activity was Floor Hockey and for this activity, I rated my self a level 3. To achieve level 3 we have to show that we can consistently make a contribution to the team goal. I need to include myself and others in the team activity. I need to sometimes use positive communication to encourage our team.
During the games, I showed that I am working at level 3 by Using positive communication towards my team and including myself and others into the game to help our team go for the win. These examples show that I have the standard for level 3
While playing the Cross-court games, something that I found challenging was some of my team didn’t want to play so I had to get out for a little to help my team get back in the game. The reason I found this challenging was because I had to leave my post in the game and convince others to get back in and help the rest of the team.
However, I managed to overcome this challenge by trusting my team to get my post and let me out the game for a bit to get the rest of my team back in. Next week I am aiming to work at level 4 To make sure that I am working that level I am going to work on including myself up to the front of the game and being a leader for my team.

P.E - Hurumanu
This week in our P.E Hurumanu we have been playing floor hockey and four-corner soccer in our class and in teams to help us learn how to be a good team with other people who you don’t normally work with. We have been doing this in the gym.
Our first activity was Floor Hockey. For this activity, I rated my self as a 3. To achieve level 3 we have to show that we can consistently make a contribution to the teams scoring by getting in the game and going to the shot. I need to include myself and others in the team activity as well as to use positive communication to encourage our team. During the first game of hockey, I showed that I am working at level 3 by using positive communication and including everyone in the game so if someone wasn’t doing their part in the team I would help them by calling them things to do. These examples show that I have met the standard for level 3.
Our second activity was Six Corner Soccer. For this activity, I rated my self as a 3.To achieve level 3 we have to show that we can consistently make a contribution to the teams scoring by getting in the game and going to the shot. I need to include myself and others in the team activity as well as to use positive communication to encourage our team. During the first game of soccer, I showed that I am working at the level by using positive communication and getting myself in the game as well as letting others have their kick. These examples show that I have met the standard for level 3.
Next week I am aiming to work at level 4. To make sure that I am working that level I am going to work on being a leader for the team and including everyone more into the game.

Adele - Beats And Beyond
Today I have been working on my Adele slideshow of facts about her. We got told to find out the full name, date of birth, how she started, and how she is now. I found out more about music while searching for her top song and found out that the song 'Hello' was the favorite of the group of songs she has created.

Hurumanu - Charlesworth Reserve

Next week for our Hurumanu we as a group decided to help out our community more and go to the Charlesworth Reserve Volunteer Day to plant more native trees. We can plant trees like Rimu, Kauri, Podocarpus Totara, and many more. We all thought this was a great idea to help attract more native birds to our beautiful city. The name Charlesworth came from a man called Captain William Charlesworth who was born in 1814 and died in 1875. Willam ended up being wounded in the foot by an ax. Succumbing to blood poisoning quickly. Willam Charlesworth was buried just five days later at the Woolston Cemetery. We are wanting to plant native trees to attract native birds because for some time they have been disappearing with our lack of respect to our city. Climate Change and pollution have been destroying our plant and wildlife with it. With our help, we can bring the native birds back to Christchurch and plant more trees. With our help, We can stop pollution. With our help, we can change Christchurch for the better of the Earth.

Beats And Beyond
This week in our new Hurumanu we are doing music. I am very excited about this Hurumanu because I love making and listening to different music to find the type that catches my eye. We first had to find out what we already knew about music. When we were all talking out teachers Mrs. Hastie and Mr. Mitchell found out that we have a lot of knowledge about music anyway. We know many different types from rock and role to soft jazz, many instruments from a basic Guitar to a Pyrophone.
After that, we got into groups to share what we think music is. I think music is something that creates a rhythm or a beat that can be put together to create something that people enjoy to listen to. Today we learned what types of guitars there are and the different parts on them. Then we got out our books and did a title page which I thought was the most fun part so far. I drew a guitar and some music notes to represent someone making music.
The biggest thing I know about music is that anything can be music if you put it together and make a rhythm or beat that people enjoy listening to.

Storyboards Creation
Today for art we created a storyboard to help understand what is going where and how it is gonna look. We did some light scratching and explained the drawing with a brief explanation. When we finished up the drawings we started to give other peoples drawings and explanations feedback while another group was giving us feedback. The feedback we got given was.
Positive - I like the wolf in the story.
Thoughtful - It reminds me of a cold night.
Helpful - Next time tell us about what happened after the wolf chased the girls into the cave.
