Treaty Of Waitangi - Power to The People

This week I have been learning more about the treaty of Waitangi and why it was signed. The treaty of Waitangi is a huge deal and if you think not just wonder how important it must be to have its own day on the calendar. We went through a slideshow about the day, when it was, what it was about, and who signed it trying to fit as much knowledge of the day in our brains as we could. I found out that the treaty was signed by the Maori and the British crown, It was about letting the queen or king rule the land. It also was about letting the Maori be treated the same as the British for they had been discarded and denied whenever they had tried to do something around the British. here is my work on the treaty of Waitangi.

1. Who was the Treaty of Waitangi between?
The British and Māori.

2. When did the government decide that they needed a treaty?
1830’s

3. Why do you think the treaty needed to be translated?
Because if it was only in one then only one group of people would understand what it said and what it meant. If you could read it then you wouldn’t know what the agreement was.

4. How many chiefs signed the treaty on the 6th of February 1840?
500

5. What was the main cause of the wars in the 1860s?
Because the treaty wasn’t translated in both languages.

6. What happened in the 1970s?
The Māori people decided to finally protest for their land.

7. Why do you think it took so long for people to protest about the treaty?
Because people had different opinions and others probably didn’t want to get rid of the thing that their own people agreed to.

8. Research and find out what a ‘tribunal’ is.
It is a seat of judgment, particularly a judge’s seat in court.

Real Vs Fake News - Power To The People

For the past two weeks, I have been working on looking at real and fake stories to see if I could tell the difference. We started by looking at real or fake news reports and we had to do research to see if what the report said was true or not. Once I completed that I moved down the slides learning about how you can desifer the real from the fake.

As I was going through the slides there was a writing activity and I decided that it would be better to do that rather than learn and have no evadence. I started by writing a fake story about something random the only catch was that it had to have at least 3 truthful things in it. Afterwards I had to get a friend to write a news report about my story.

Once I had done that I had to answer questions and write another story about something that is real. I desided to write about the very real and dangourous coronavirus. When I finished writing bout the virus I had answered the two last questions before I could complete my asinment. here is my completed work on real vs fake news.

EXERCISE 1: PROVING YOUR STORY IS REAL

• Imagine your friend has told you a story this morning about something dramatic that happened on their way to school. How do you know if it is true or not? Does your friend say it is but is anyone else saying so? Did anyone else see it? What would you do to check? Who might you ask? Where could you look online to find out more?

Ask Your friend if anyone was around so you could check in with them to see if what she was saying was true. You could do some research to see if it had happened before.

• Now it’s your turn to create an imaginary story about something happening in your school or local area. It can be as dramatic as you like. (For example, perhaps your headteacher was once in a boy or girl band, or your town is the location for a film with Jennifer Lawrence and everyone in the school gets to take part – be as imaginative as you like!) When you have thought up your story, add at least 3 bits of truth to it. Don’t tell anyone what your story is about!

There was a teacher who had been teaching at the school for 7 years. Everyone would look at her as she spoke because everyone was afraid. You could say she was a little bit psychotic. She had a British accent and the way she out her words would make her sound like she wants to kill someone. Every day she would walk by the classrooms steering into them on her study period not saying anything or knocking on the door, just staring. Because she was strange everyone thought that she was the one killing people. Oh ya, I guess I forgot to mention that. People have been going missing for years now but it all started when SHE came. One day we went to class only to find her with a knife in her chest still alive but bleeding heavily. To say we were shocked was an understatement. She had a drug in her hand and it looked like it was espanyonowa. As we were walking into the classroom to see if she really was there the door closed and all I saw was black.

BREAKING NEWS! ( By Lucy The Great )

A killer has attacked Hornby High School one of the teachers has been brutally murdered in a science classroom. There have been students that have gone missing in the past seven years but the teacher was found out in the open not hidden or covered up. Families doubt their child’s survival after beeing missing after seven years and the last sighting of them at Hornby high school.  Lucy Snogerbottem was thought to be the last one who saw the teacher alive but has now vanished after entering the science classroom.

Coronavirus -

The Corona Virus is a deadly virus that supposedly started from animals at the seafood market. This is a very real situation for already

There have been many thoughts on the matter concerning the virus but it seems that no one knows where the virus has come from. The virus infects the tissues and airways deep inside the lungs rather than the nose.

Some believe that it comes from the animals whereas others believe that it comes from a close-by lab that has been experimenting on viruses and cures. The first, a 61-year-old man, had severe pneumonia when he arrived at the hospital. His lungs were unable to provide enough oxygen to his organs to keep his body alive. Despite being put on a ventilator, his lungs failed and his heart stopped beating. He died 11 days after he was admitted.

The parts of the story that are the same are the fact that it has somehow started in the local fish market and the first person that had been caught with the virus was the 61-year-old man.

Some of the information was posted near half an hour before I read it whereas others have been posted near a month ago.

  • How do your stories differ?
The first story where the teacher dies is fake whereas the next one (Coronavirus) is very much true. My first story has some truth in it but I just made it 10 times more dramatic. The coronavirus is completely truthful with evidence from the news to the websites and videos of people dying from this terrible virus.

  • What parts of the story are the same?
In the first story, people kept dying every day with the same death. With the coronavirus, people are also dying every day with the same symptoms and deaths as the ones before them.
