Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.
Water Filtration Plant |
What is the filtration?
Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.
Examples are:
- Water Filter
- Air Filter
- Pool Filter
- Oil Filter
Materials
1. Funnel
2. Container
3. Filter Paper
4. Scissors
5. Stones
6. Sand
7. Cup
8. Dirty Water
Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )
Step 1
Cut the bottle so you have can use the top as a 'funnel' and the bottom as a 'cup'.
Step 2
Put the top half upside down so you can put the funnel paper (shaped like a cone) in the top.
STEP 3
Add layers of sand and stones to help keep the dirt out of the water.
STEP 4
Get 1 cup of dirty water to help you complete your experiment.
STEP 5
Pour the dirty water into the stones and sand and watch it fall down into cleaner water.
Findings
Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.
Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.
Minutes 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Drops per minute:
Watercolor: Light brown
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the experiment works to a certain extent. Sure it makes the water clear but I would not like to drink it because it has some color still in it and the look from the start makes it unappealing.
