Theme Guide Booklet - Film Sudies

Today in film studies we had to choose between making a theme guide booklet or a mindmap about the movie Coraline. My friend and I decided that it would be better for us to do the theme guide booklet because it was an easy task for two people to do together. I talked about how looks could be deceiving like how we first met the other mother and she was so nice compared to at the end of the movie where she turns into a weird looking spider demon. Lucy wrote about the bravery from Coraline in the movie. She was scared at the start of the movie but her character developed in the movie and she became braver and stronger mentally and physically. Arthritis - Inside And Out

For the past two days, my friend and I have been working on a slideshow about arthritis. We talked about what it was, the different types, and how to prevent arthritis. We did a lot of research and found out a lot of things we didn't know until today. I found out that arthritis isn't caused by clicking your bones unless you bend them too far and mess with the ligaments and cartilage by your bone. Lucy and I halved the work but we also communicated about what we were putting in the slide so we can learn more and compare our information. I found this assignment easy and fun to do which was a surprise for I am not a huge fan of biology.

Unpacking Themes And Ideas - Film Studies

Today for film studies, we were working on the difference between the first impressions and who the character is/what the place is vs who/what the subject actually is.

Theme & Ideas - Continuous idea/subject that links throughout the film/book/show.
'Looks can be deceiving' -
- Don't judge a book by it's cover
- Don't judge by appearance

EXAMPLE 1: Character Of Wybie - When we first meet him he seems scary (Mask, Motorbike, Lightning, Higher point of view, Looks bigger, Loud music) but in reality, he is just her weird neighbor.

HOW DOES IT SHOW THE THEME - Shows theme because, like other characters, our first impressions based on appearance, tone, and visual technics aren't always correct. We used Coraline as an example

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT 'LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING' - It is important because it helps the abundance understand with Coraline that just because something looks good doesn't mean it is. She chose the real world over the fake world that turned out to be a trap.

EXAMPLE 2: Character Of the 'Other Mother' - She seems normal/friendly the start but by the end becomes a soal devouring spider demon.

HOW DOES IT SHOW THE THEME - Shows theme because, like other characters, our first impression of the 'Other Mother' is based on appearance, tone, and visual technics that aren't always correct. She seems nice at the start but really isn't so we shouldn't judge by first impressions.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT 'LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING' - It is important because Coraline realizes that having something that looks perfect isn't always a good thing.

In Coraline, the theme 'looks can be deceiving' is used effectively to engage the audience.

For instance, the character of the 'Other Mother' shows us that looks can be deceiving because she started of as a caring, kind, mother figure but gradually changes into a soal devouring spider demon.

This makes us understand to not judge everything by appearances but also look for other clues of hints as to who they are for the first appearance can be wrong.

This was done to help Coraline decide between the real world and the other world. If the 'Other Mother' was really perfect Coraline wouldn't choose to go back home to the real world.

Combined with this is the use of this is the color and lighting. The 'Other Mother' first appearance in a vibrantly bright room that makes us feel warm and safe. However, by the end, it has become dark and green which makes the viewer feel unsafe and shows that looks were deceiving.

This can be juxtaposed to the character of Wybie who we think at first is evil but is truly kind proving looks can be deceiving.

Cup Stacking - P.E

Today in P.E, we were working on our cup stacking skills using the speed stack equipment. We started off by stacking the cups 3 by 3 by 3 where you have 3 pyramids next to each other that are made out of 3 cups for each on. I found this on the easiest for we only have to move the cups like a clock and take them down the same way. Next, we learned how to stack the cups 3 by 6 by 3 where you have 2 3 cupped pyramids on each side and a 6 stacked pyramid in the middle. I started off by working on mastering the 6 stacked pyramid and found myself slowly getting faster. After I got the hang of it I grabbed the two stacks of 3 and started doing it all together. I started on my left side and stacked the 3 cups then the 6 and afterward the other 3. Once they were all stacked I went back to the start and took them down. I found this exercise fun because you can compete with your class or friends for the fastest time.

Chewy Choco Chips Cookies - Cooking

Last Friday in cooking class we made some delicious chocolate chip cookies. I would totally recommend this recipe for these are some of the best cookies I have ever made. When made right it has a chewy texture on the inside but crunchy on the out. It becomes cruncher when left our for a little so if you like a chewy and soft cookie then I would recommend you eat them after cooling for a little so they are warm but not so that it burns you when you eat them.

INGREDIENTS

100g butter softened,
1/2 cup of white sugar,
1/2 cup of brown sugar,
1 egg,
1 tsp vanilla,
1 1/2 cups flour,
pinch of salt,
1/2 tsp of baking powder,
1/2 cup choco chips

DIRECTIONS - MADE SIMPLE

We started off by turning our oven to 180 on bake. We then got our mise en place done (Finished getting our ingredients and putting them in order). After that, we softened our butter and added the sugars as well as the vanilla. Once that was creamed together, we added our egg and whipped it until it was incorporated into the mixture. When the wet ingredients were together we mixed all of our dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking powder, and chocolate chips) into a separate bowl to make sure everything would be incorporated at the same time. After that, we mixed the dry ingredients into the wet mixture making sure nit to River mix because that would activate the gluten. When we mixed it we got a tray and lined it with baking paper so the cookies don't stick to the tray. We rolled the cookies into medium-sized balls and placed them down so they don't touch when they spread out while cooking. Then you put them into the oven on the top shelf and cook for about 8 - 10 minutes.

     

            

Dance In Musicals - Drama

Today in drama we have been talking about musicals and how the people dance while they sing. We watched the musical Annie where it shows the dance when they sing about them having a 'hard not life'. We also watched a scene where they were dance fighting on the streets and it told the story about how there are different sides and they don't get along. It tells us a bit about each group but also how they would react to things happening to them. We talked about how the dance scenes told us the story or what caused these people to act the way they do. Here is an example of a story in a dance/singing scene from Bugsy Malone - Fat Sam's Grand Slam.

How Does Your Hand Work - Inside Out

For the past two weeks, we have been looking at bones and muscles in our bodies but we have been recently been looking at how our hand functions. In your hand, you have 27 bones keeping it in place as well as 20 joints to help bend your hand in ways to help us with everyday activities. With the muscles in our hand, we have them in our palm and forearm but our fingers don't have any. You have two types of joints in your hand, the first one is a hinge joint which is a joint that can only move one way like how your fingers can only for forwards, the second is a ball and socket joint which is the joint that can move around in a circle. 

We made some hands of our own out of paper, reusable straws, and string. We cut the paper into a hand shape and stuck that straws to it. We cut three pieces for the fingers but two for the thumb, then we cut 5 medium-sized ones to connect the fingers to the hand. After that, we cut a small part of the straw to connect all of them together. Once we were done with the base we used 5 thin strips of string and put them through the straw.
